Police detained 8 Ekiti university students over cultism allegations

The Ekiti State Police Command detained eight suspected cult members at Ekiti State University in Ado Ekiti.

Sunday Abutu, the state Police Public Relations Officer, told reporters in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday that the arrest on Tuesday was the result of the Command’s Rapid Response Squad responding to a distress call.

Abutu stated, on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Adeniran Akinwale, that “at about 18:00 hours, the command received a distress call that some suspected members of the Buccaneer Confraternity Alora Sea Lords secret cult group were conducting themselves in a manner that could cause a breach of peace on the campus of EKSU.”

He said the command immediately deployed the RRS to the scene where eight suspected cult members were arrested.

Abutu listed the suspects as: Onifade Akinsola (400L Political Science), Olatunde David (400L Computer Science), Omoboyowa Olabode (400L Political Science), Daniel Oluwagbenga (300L Accounting), Adeleke Tolani (300L Sociology), Andrew Ochuko (300L Sociology), Bamiduro Olawale (CarryOver Student of Political Science), and Adelakun Omoniyi (2023 graduate).

The PPRO stated, “During the operation, some of the fleeing gang members fired gunshots at the Armoured Personnel Carrier conveying the RRS operatives and damaged the windshield. Efforts are in progress to arrest them and recover the weapons in their possession.

“Exhibits recovered from the arrested suspects are two yellow fez caps with the Buccaneer Confraternity Alora Sea Lords secret cult logo and an inscription that reads – Santa Barbara Love Victory and Perfection,”
