A knife attack targeting schoolchildren in China’s southern Jiangxi province has killed at least two people and injured ten others, according to police.
According to the BBC, the event took place about lunchtime on Monday at a primary school in Guixi. Most of the students are between the ages of six and twelve.
Chinese police claimed in a social media statement that a 45-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the crime, stating she carried out the stabbing with a fruit knife.
The incident is one of the most recent examples of China’s increasing knife attacks.
In May of last year, a man attacked Zhenxiong People’s Hospital in Yunnan province, killing two and injuring 21.
Another one occurred in July at a kindergarten in the south-eastern province of Guangdong, killing six people, including three children.
In August of last year, a man with a mental health history attacked people with a knife in a residential district in Yunnan, killing two and injuring seven.
