NUC accredits 11 courses at Ajayi Crowther University

The National Universities Commission has given full accreditation for 11 new programmes at Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo State, spanning seven faculties.

This development was reported on Tuesday in a statement made accessible to newsmen which cited the NUC’s letter to the university dated June 6, 2024.

Newly approved degrees include Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Agriculture, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Mass Communication, Computer Engineering, Electrical Electronics Engineering, Survey and Geo-informatics, Economics, and Peace, Strategic, and Conflict Resolution. Additionally, Radiography and Radiation Science were granted interim accreditation.

According to the NUC, the accreditation was issued in compliance with Section 10(l) of the Education Act, which authorises the commission to establish and accredit minimum academic standards for programmes at Nigerian institutions.

Prof. Timothy Adebayo, Vice-Chancellor of ACU, expressed his satisfaction at the news, saying, “It is with great pleasure that I announce the recent accreditation of additional courses by the Nigeria Universities Commission.

“This significant achievement signifies the University’s unwavering commitment to providing high-quality education and maintaining the highest standards of academic excellence.”

The Vice-Chancellor emphasised the rigorous nature of the accreditation process, which involves thorough evaluations by the NUC.

“The fact that our courses have met and exceeded these standards is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and expertise of our faculty, staff, and students,” he added.

Prof. Adebayo further highlighted the importance of this achievement for the university’s students and the wider community.

“Accredited courses ensure that our students receive an education that is recognised and respected both nationally and internationally. It opens doors for further academic pursuits and enhances their employment prospects in an increasingly competitive global market,” he said.

The accreditation process began in September 2023, when the NUC’s Executive Secretary informed the university about the planned accreditation exercise.

NUC teams then visited ACU from October to December to review the institution’s readiness and compliance with accreditation rules.
