Abia Secondary School Alumni Association alleges sexual misconduct takes place on school grounds

The Ibeku High School Old Boys Association claims that morale has declined at their former school.

They stated this at their meeting in Umuahia, Abia State, alleging that certain students from the school were spotted congregating within a hideout on school grounds to indulge in sex and other inappropriate acts.

They further claimed that some members of the management team were now using official school hours to attend to private school issues.

Ifeanyi Agbai, the National President of the Ibeku High School Old Boys Association and a retired Permanent Secretary in the Abia State civil service, stated that the organisation will not allow their former school to continue letting its image slip.

He urged the Abia state government to look into the matter.

The former Permanent Secretary, who claimed that the Principal of Ibeku High School and some members of the management team were frequently late to school and were not properly monitoring student conduct, urged the Abia State Commissioner for Education, Professor Uche Eme Uche, to redeploy the principal and any identified corrupt school official.

Also speaking, Idika Kalu, Class Head of the 1977 set, Olugo Okorie, Class Head of the 1985 set, and Gbaruko Okechukwu, Class Head of the 1978 set, explained that the association was not witch-hunting anyone, but rather interested in getting the right things done to reposition the school for a better future.

The former Class Heads praised their National President for leading the campaign to restore their previous school’s standing.

However, when contacted, an Ibeku High School staff member who spoke on the condition of anonymity denied the allegations levelled against the management staff, stating that the school would never tolerate any immoral behaviour by students and that the management staff did not arrive late to school, as claimed by the Old Boys Association.

The staff also stated that the Old Boys Association, which has a reputation for good intentions, should not resort to a political tool.
