The University of Birmingham and Osun State University (UNIOSUN) have selected 22 early-career Nigerian scholars for proposal writing and grantsmanship in Humanities.
The scholarships came from 17 different universities, including Obafemi Awolowo University, Ekiti State University, and the University of Ibadan, among others.
Speaking at the beginning of the seminar, Prof. Insa Nolte from the University of Birmingham stated that the training was crucial for early scholars due to the intricacies of proposal writing.
She noted: “We want to encourage people to take opportunities. We are supporting and encouraging them today. They should make the best of the opportunities they have.”
Prof. Sola Akinrinade, the pioneer Vice Chancellor of UNIOSUN, cautioned the scholars against using false data for research, saying that it could have serious implications.
He also admonished: “Government while appointing Governing council members must ensure that they appointed people with capacity. If Governing Councils are full of mediocrity then there is a problem.
“The truth is that the University system, polytechnic system and college of education are not places for just anybody to be in the council, but people with an understanding of what the needs of our tertiary institutions are.”
