Over 1.3 million candidates registered for the 2024 SSCE – NECO




The National Examinations Council is now conducting the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (internal), and 1,376,391 students have registered.

Prof. Dantani Wushishi, NECO’s Registrar/Chief Executive, made the announcement on Wednesday after overseeing the examination at various Enugu centres.

According to a statement issued by the Head of Public Affairs, Azeez Sani, the NECO chief, Prof. Wushishi, who expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination in the centre, revealed that reports from throughout the country showed that the examination was proceeding well.

He attributed the success to the multiple measures put in place to ensure a smooth exercise.

According to him, the prevalence of examination malpractice is decreasing as a result of some of the innovations implemented.

The registrar advised candidates to work hard to achieve a good grade in the examination, emphasising that “there is no shortcut to success”.

“He disclosed that since the commencement of the examination, he had monitored the exercise in Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Imo, and Anambra States to have first-hand Information on the Conduct of the examination with 1,376,371 registered candidates.”

According to him, critical stakeholders in all of the states visited praised NECO for the numerous measures put in place to help ensure the smooth conduct of the 2024 SSCE.

“The Registrar disclosed that the examination is also being held in Togo, Benin Republic, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Niger Republic, Cote d’Ivoire and the Kingdom of Saudi-Arabia.

“Prof. Wushishi explained that the extension of NECO examinations to other countries indicates the wide acceptance of NECO Certificates across the world.

The 2024 NECO SSCE commenced on 19th June and will end on 25th July 2024.

Candidates are expected to sit for the examination in 76 subjects.
