Nigerian lady emerges best law graduate of UK university




Cherish Daniel Markson, a Bayelsa native, was awarded first prize from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom for her outstanding achievement in the three-year BA (Hons) Law with Social Sciences degree programme.

Cherish, the university’s best law graduate is the daughter of Daniel Iworiso-Markson, Bayelsa State’s former Commissioner for Information and Orientation.

In a congratulatory letter signed by Dr Margaret O’Brien, Director of Undergraduate Studies, School of Law, the institution stated that Cherish obtained the highest mark among all students “on this most demanding of all courses” and was awarded a prize of £250.

“You have been awarded First Prize for your performance in three-year BA (Hons) Law with Social Sciences degree at the University of Warwick. You achieved a Second Class; Higher Division Degree with an overall average of 67.3per cent. This was the highest mark of all students on this most demanding course. A record of your prize-winner status will be added to your HEAR transcript. Your prize of £250 will be paid directly into your bank account, “the letter read in part.

The institution stated that with her level of commitment and intellect, there is no question that Cherish will achieve great things in her post-university life and that the Head of the School will host a formal celebration in her honour following the graduation ceremony on July 19.

Markson received the Top in World Award in Law and High Achievement in Sociology from Cambridge International three years ago while attending Bridge House College in Lagos.

She received the prestigious award for her exceptional performance in the Advanced Subsidiary Level Examination (November 2020/2021 series).

According to the school, Markson achieved all A-stars (A*) in nine IGCSE subjects: English, Mathematics, Biology, Geography, Literature, Business Studies, Economics, History, and ICT.

The international qualification is recognised globally by the world’s best universities and employers as giving students a wide range of options in their education and career.
