Plateau State University, Bokkos has rusticated 43 students for examination misconduct and other violations of university policies.
The rustication was part of a decision passed at the end of the university Senate’s 88th meeting, presided over by Professor Shedrack Best, Acting Vice-Chancellor.
The VC, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Moses Pyefa, stated that important decisions aimed at improving the institution’s academic and administrative procedures were discussed, among other things.
“The Senate ratified the revised academic calendar for the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions, ensuring a structured and efficient academic timetable. On the university’s cut-off mark for the 2024/2025 admissions, to be conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), and in line with JAMB’s request for cut-off points for admissions, the Senate ratified the decision to set the admission cut-off mark at 160.
“Other faculties were equally instructed to revise benchmarks based on their specific departmental requirements. The Senate also approved the recommendations of the examinations disciplinary committee, resulting in the sanctioning of 43 students for various examination-related offences demonstrating the university’s commitment to upholding academic integrity,” he reiterated.
The 88th meeting of the university Senate also appraised the university’s recent achievements, which included a partnership with Michigan State University and a collaboration on a tree planting campaign with Bethany Christian Academy, among other notable activities carried out during the period under review.
Other significant achievements, according to the VC, include the implementation of a modified second-semester timetable, which outlines crucial dates for lectures, revision week, examinations, and sessional results. He explained that the structured approach will ensure academic continuity and timely assessment of student performance.
The meeting complimented the Plateau State Government’s efforts to tar the roads within the university, giving it a more impressive image as one of its proud state institutions contributing to the country’s educational gaps.
