Pastor remanded for defiling 14-year-old girl and inducing 3 abortions

A 14-year-old secondary school student revealed to an Akure Magistrates’ Family Court in Ondo state how she aborted her school principal and pastor, Adetunji Obatayo, 55, three times.

In her testimony before the court, the victim stated that the principal had sexual relations with her since she first moved home with him when she was ten years old.

“Four years ago, my parents released me to live with a pastor due to his desire to train me.

“On my first day in his house, he forcefully had sexual intercourse with me and told me not to tell anyone about it.

“He had impregnated me thrice and he gave me N5,000 to buy some contraceptive drugs to abort the pregnancy after many preventive drugs.

”But during the third pregnancy, he refused to give me money for the drug, and I stole his money to buy the pills.

”Pastor later accused me of stealing his money for my boyfriend which led to the arrest of a boy in our school and I informed my parents about his ordeal.”

Meanwhile, Obatayo has been remanded to prison detention by the Magistrate Family Court for defiling a 14-year-old girl and procuring an abortion for her three times.

In 2020, the victim’s parents turned over their daughter to Pastor Obatayo, who also serves as the Principal of the school where she attends.

Obatayo had pledged to her parents that he would assist her in school.

He was charged with three counts of defilement and unlawfully providing medications to induce abortion, resulting in the death of an unborn child.

His pleas, however, were not heard.

According to the charge, the acts violate Sections 218, 230, and 328 of Ondo State’s Criminal Laws of 2006.

The presiding Magistrate, B.A. Alphonso, remanded the defendant to the Olokuta Correctional Centre and instructed that the case file be referred to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for guidance.

The trial Magistrate, Alphonso, then ordered the victim to be put in for rehabilitation and adjourned the case until August 29, 2024 for mention.
