The Lagos State Government has appointed Professor Raheem Olasupo Akewushola as the new Provost of the Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET) in Yaba. Prior to his appointment, the Professor was Dean of the Faculty of Management Science at Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo.
The appointment of the new Provost was announced to the College’s administration and personnel by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Sule, through the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Adeniran Kasali.
The Commissioner stated that Professor Akewushola’s appointment was necessary due to the need to improve teaching and learning at the College in order to meet global standards and the state’s health expectations.
He described the newly appointed Provost as a “round peg in a round hole,” citing his academic background and administrative talents as a former Dean of Faculty, Management Science at Lagos State University (LASU).
According to him, his appointment was part of the process of taking the College development to a higher level in awarding higher diplomas and degrees in the near future.
The Commissioner stated that the current administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is committed to providing modern teaching tools, facilities, and infrastructure, as well as paying adequate attention to staff welfare, so that the College can maintain its enviable position in the country.
He, therefore, requested the assistance and cooperation of the College staff for the new Provost to excel and achieve the goals of improving learning and teaching in the College.
In his remarks, Professor Akewushola thanked the state government for the appointment and confidence reposed in him, promising that no stone would be left unturned to achieve the goals and ideals on which the College was founded.
He reaffirmed his commitment to improving the College’s research, teaching, and learning standards while also creating a peaceful environment conducive to learning.
The event, held recently at the College Hall in Yaba, was attended by the Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Establishment, Training and Pension, Hon. Oladele Ajayi; the former Acting Provost, now Deputy Provost (Administration), Mrs. Oyeronke Uthman-Izobo; Deputy Provost (Academics), Dr. Olaronke Agoro; members of the College, family members of the new Provost, and well-wishers.
Professor Akewushola Raheem succeeded Mrs. Oyeronke Uthman-Izobo, who had served as Acting Provost of the Lagos State College for Health Technology prior to the appointment of the new Provost.
