Bayero University suspends lectures due to hunger protest

The management of Bayero University, Kano, has ordered that all scheduled lectures be suspended immediately.

The direction was contained in a statement issued by the Deputy Registrar, Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, on behalf of the Acting Registrar.

“After a careful review of the situation in Kano State as a result of the National Protest, the University Management has directed that all scheduled lectures should be suspended forthwith,” according to the statement.

The University’s administration also praised members of the university community for their support and cooperation in maintaining peaceful atmosphere across its campuses.

However, as normalcy is restored, all academic and administrative activities will resume fully.

It advised students residing on the campuses to continue to remain calm and law-abiding, as adequate arrangements have been put in place to ensure their safety.

“The Management, in particular, is concerned with the safety of lives and property and, therefore, enjoins the members of the University community to continue to be cautious about their movements outside the campuses to avoid exposure to any possible danger,’ the statement added.

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, expressed disappointment with the outcome of the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests, claiming they have undone years of progress in the state.

The Emir expressed concern over the destruction of the Nigerian Communications Commission digital centre, a multibillion-naira facility created to provide Kano’s youth with digital skills and certify them in internet and computer proficiency.

Addressing reporters at the Palace on Friday, the Emir remarked, “Today is a sad day for the people of Kano due to what happened in the state.” We sympathise with the entire indigent population of Kano.

On Saturday, Kano State Police Command conducted a house-to-house search to retrieve stolen items from the #EndbadgovernanceinNigeria protest in Kano.
