According to a communiqué released yesterday in Abuja by the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria‘s Registrar and Secretary, Adetunji Adeniran, six universities’ undergraduate building programmess have been approved for five years.
The approved universities are Imo State University, Owerri; Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State; University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos; Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; Federal University, Birnin-Kebbi; and Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Agbani, Enugu State.
“The council is pleased to accredit these universities, as they have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in building education,” said Adeniran.
The council also adopted the National Skills Qualification Framework for registering building technologists, technicians and artisans, and created suitable registers.
It stated that the measure was likely to improve the professionalism of Nigeria’s building practitioners.
The communiqué also praised the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, for signing three laws governing the orderly development of built environments.
The council also commended Ahmed Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, for his efforts to address building collapse around the country.
