KADUNA (Sundiata Scholar) – Kano State Government says it will introduce proactive measures to transform the education sector in the state.
The State Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Umar Doguwa stated this on Monday during the State Education Sector Joint Steering Committee meeting.
He said that the meeting was organised to review progress reports from the Technical Working Groups (TWGs) regarding the implementation of basic education initiatives in the state.
Doguwa explained that following the declaration of state of emergency on education by Gov. Abba Yusuf, the ministry had taken positive steps to ensure that the policy is fully implemented to achieve the intended goals.
According to him, part of these efforts is the conduct of biannual meetings of the education sector joint steering committee.
He stressed that the 2024 meeting was aimed at discussing the progress on the implementation of the 14-point education reform agenda and deliberate on the recommendations from the Kano Education Recovery Conference and Action plan.
“What we are expected to do during this crucial meeting, include dissemination of findings from the 2023 Annual Education Sector Performance Review.
”We will also receive a brief on Haske Basic Education for Integrated Qur’anic Schools Pilot in Kano and agree on the next steps, ” said Doguwa.
The commissioner also announced that the ministry has mapped out the next steps agenda to be implemented soon.
“The steps agenda include conduct of massive schools enrolment, distribution of instructional materials to schools across the 44 LGA’S and reopening of the boarding schools closed down by the past immediate administration,” he said.
Doguwa added that preparations have been completed to provide upkeep allowance to schools to ensure their smooth operation for quality education.
The commissioner further said that very soon, the administration of Yusuf would distribute adequate furniture and uniforms to provide an enabling learning environment.
Doguwa further urged the participants of the programme to stand on the promises being made during the meeting as their next steps of action, assuring them for government’s support at all times.
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr Yusuf Kofar-Mata maintained that the ministry has agreed to upgrade and develop the technical education system to provide a befitting environment for skills acquisition programmes.
“We came here with a developed action plan framework on the education sector and we have done a lot to ensure that the meeting becomes successful.
“As you can see, we have already taken the next steps in the form of promotion of new policies including new ones and the implementation of the well established existing policies.
“One of the activities carried out during the meeting was the intensive review of the education crisis response plan framework .
”It entails improving access to quality education, almajiri and alternative education system, among others.” (NAN)
