Retreat: Pre-school educators vital in shaping children’s early years – Experts




LAGOS ( Sundiata Scholar) – A Social Enterprise, the Mentoring School for Early-years Educators (MSEE Consult) on Tuesday highlighted the importance of preschool educators in shaping and building children in their early years.

Funmi Ilori, Director of Communication, MSEE Consult, made this known to the sideline of a two-day annual Preschool Teachers’ Retreat held in Jibowu, Lagos.

reports that the two-day annual retreat had the theme: “Rise and Thrive: Building Resilience and Excellence in the Classroom.”

The retreat had educators from private and public schools, and focused on building resilience, enhancing teaching excellence, and fostering personal growth among preschool educators.Ilori said: “

The role of preschool educators cannot be overemphasised.

They play an important role in the building of early stages of children.“Topics to be considered at this retreat include safety/ safeguarding, best practices, early literacy skills and inclusive teaching practices.“Topics such as inspiring classrooms and decorations, tech innovation in early years, amongst other topics, will also be considered.”

The MSEE Director of Communication who doubled as the Programme Convener, urged the participants to study pre-nursery school class textbooks before teaching.

She said that the books were designed to ignite the learning spark of young learners.Similarly, Anu Akinola, the MSEE Director of Training, noted that MSEE’s mission was to develop professional skills and promote high-quality benchmarks for childcare delivery.“

As the foundation of child development, preschool educators play a pivotal role in shaping the future, and MSEE is dedicated to ensuring they have the tools to succeed,” she said.

One of the participants, Emem Adeola, described the programme as impactful, adding that, “it has been an educative and transformative experience, the topics have increased my knowledge and passion for teaching.

Also, Dike Chisom, another participant, applauded MSEE for creating the platform to better educators’ teaching skill, especially in understudying and handling children to bring out the best in them.
