Oyo Govt to interview 545 PWDs for teaching posts

The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board has announced that 545 candidates with disabilities will be interviewed at its headquarters in Ibadan on September 10 and 11.

This was announced by OYOSUBEB Chairman, Dr Nureni Adeniran, during a visit by the Oyo State Agency for People with Disabilities, led by Director-General, Ayodele Adekanmbi, on Thursday.

The visit served as the final arrangement for the board’s upcoming interview process for people with disabilities.

Recall that the board set September 10 and 11 as interview dates for candidates with disabilities, and September 12 and 13 for caregivers.

Adeniran stated that applicants from Oke-Ogun, Ibarapa, Ogbomoso, and Oyo would be interviewed on September 10, while candidates from Ibadan main city and Ibadan less city would be interviewed on September 11.

He said though the board was constrained by other criteria for the recruitment such as merit, gender, and local government spread, among others, the welfare of those with disabilities was key to the present administration.

“The board is committed to prioritising persons with disabilities and will continue to do so. We have enough special schools for them to teach. There are 22 special basic schools across the three senatorial districts in Oyo State.

“The Seyi Makinde-led administration is committed to making life better for them without any form of discrimination or rejection,” Adeniran said.

Adekanmbi praised the board for executing a comprehensive exercise aimed at strengthening the workforce of the state.

He stated that the board had made accommodations for the visually impaired by providing Braille question papers and the necessary instruments to participate in the interview independently, as well as arrangements for the deaf and physically handicapped.

Adekanmbi stated that the board’s decision to include his organisation encouraged full participation and inclusion of PWDs in teacher recruitment, as well as increased awareness about disability rights and issues across the board.

“To make the arrangements easy, the candidates will be divided into three clusters: blind, deaf and the physically disabled,” he said.

The meeting was also attended by the Executive Secretary of the SUBEB, Mrs Olaide Ladipo, Special Assistant to the Governor on Disabilities, and top management members of the board.
