Professor Abdullahi Mohammed Appointed as New Deputy VC of FUTMinna




Prof. Abdullahi Mohammed has been confirmed as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) by the Federal University of Technology, Minna, according to the Appointments and Promotions Committee (A&PC).

This was confirmed at the university’s 87th meeting, which was held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at the Senate Chamber, Main Campus, Gidan Kwano. The statement was signed by Mrs. Lydia Legbo, the Head of Public Relations and Publications, Information Unit, and was made available to the Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday in Minna.

The release went on to say that the University Senate elected him as DVC designate at its 480th regular meeting on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. It emphasised that the new DVC, Academic Prof. Abdullahi Mohammed, a Professor of Civil Engineering, was born in Lapai, in the Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State, on February 28, 1972.

Assistant Registrar Mrs. Lydia Legbo stated that Prof. Mohammed attended Muhammadu Kobo Secondary School in Lapai from 1983 to 1989 and Kobo Primary School in Lapai from 1977 to 1983. She also emphasised that Prof. Mohammed completed his mandatory National Youth Service with Zenith Engineers in Kaduna State from 1999 to 2000 and graduated with Second Class Honours (Upper Division) from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria in 1998.

The statement went on to say that Prof. Mohammed began working at the university in 2000 as an assistant lecturer and earned his M.Eng. degree there in 2003.The University of Tenaga Nasional in Malaysia awarded him a PhD in Concrete Technology to cap off his academic career.

He stated that the new DVC (Academic) had held various positions including Head of Department, Welfare Officer, Project Coordinator, Departmental Project Coordinator, and Level Adviser.Mrs. Legbo stated that the new DVC Academic held this position until his recent appointment as Director of Academic Planning.

According to the description provided, Prof. Abdullahi Mohammed is a corporate member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), which is registered with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). He has assisted the NUC and COREN in the accreditation of programmes and resource verification for a number of the nation’s universities.

It was discovered that he has supervised undergraduate, PGD, M.Eng., and PhD students in addition to sitting on the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) selection committee for the foreign scholarship programme. He also possesses over 50 national and international journal articles.

He has a happy marriage and kids. As further maintained, the appointment is effective November 7, 2023, and initially for a period of two years.
