VC promises Sule Lamido University a conducive learning environment

DUTSE – Prof. Muhammad Yakasai, the recently appointed Vice-Chancellor of Jigawa’s state-owned Sule Lamido University Kafinhausa, has promised to implement measures that would improve employee welfare in order to provide efficient services.

Shortly after receiving his appointment letter from Malam Bala Ibrahim, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), in Dutse on Thursday, Yakasai made this statement to reporters.

“My first priority will be staff welfare and development. This is because the university was built on vision and mission so my first priority is to uphold the mission and vision.

“We would create a conducive teaching and learning atmosphere by motivating the staff and students for optimal performance,” he said.

He explained that the initiative was to motivate the staff to teach students well, thereby producing quality graduates.

“Provision of adequate learning environment is the issue. If you restructure the environment, the learner will learn even if he is not willing to learn,” he said.

Yakasai also assured that he has what it takes to take the university to the next level.

“I cannot claim to be the best, but certainly I have the capability and experience as I worked in many other areas of academics and administration.

“One cannot work alone, I have to carry my people along. So the entire staff of the University will be my guide, my help and my assistants,” he added.

The SSG asked the new VC to justify the trust placed in him, as his appointment was granted on the basis of qualifications, as he was giving him the appointment letter.

The appointment was authorised by Governor Umar Namadi-Danmodi on Friday, and it became effective on December 5.

Yakasai was the Chairman of the Departmental Quality Assurance Committee at Bayero University Kano (BUK) prior to his appointment.
