Kano State government to involve wealthy individuals in education funding

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf

According to the Kano State Government, plans have been finalised to approach wealthy individuals for financial contributions towards crucial infrastructure that will enhance the quality of basic education in the state.

This was stated by Governor Abba Yusuf on Tuesday in Kano when he welcomed media organisation heads at his office.

He said the move was a component of efforts to support the industry, for which the government had subsequently issued an emergency declaration.

He added that “we can’t fund the education sector alone without the assistance of wealthy residents, hence the need for us as government to reach out for the task ahead.

“This is part of efforts to ensure that stakeholders contribute toward revamping the sector.”

According to him, the move is aimed at providing proper foundation for education, especially at the basic and secondary levels to ensure optimal performance.

“We will reach out to wealthy individuals, corporate organisations, development partners and donor agencies in this direction,” he said.

Yusuf said that the administration was committed to providing quality education to youths to guarantee stable future, pointing out that“the era when pupils and students receive lessons on bare floor will soon be a thing of the past.”

The governor, therefore, called on wealthy Kano residents to sponsor qualified indigenes to further their education.

He said they should reach out by assisting in the education and training of the less privileged children as it would be counter-productive to leavethe same to the government and parents.

“There is need to show love to others, particularly the less-privileged and the Almighty Allah will ensure that their pockets never run dry.

“We cannot leave the education and training of our children for government or the parents alone.

“Any physical structure built by an individual be it primary school or high institution will bear the nameof such personality as it has been the tradition of our government.

“When the Almighty Allah blesses you in one way or the other, you must find a way to give back to the society.

“It is my prayer that our well-to-do individuals will stand strong and grow from strength to strength”, Yusuf prayed
