UNILORIN postgraduate student expelled over alleged sexual assault

Mr. Mathew Adeboye Balogun, also known as Plato, has been expelled by the University of Ilorin’s management. His matriculation number is 14/25OD062.

Mr. Balogun, a Master’s student in the university’s Department of Councillor Education, Faculty of Education, was dismissed from the university after it was determined that he had committed acts of sexual molestation against applicants and vulnerable students.

This was stated in a letter titled “Re: Allegation of Misconduct against Balogun, Mathew Adeboye,” dated Wednesday, January 3, 2024, and signed by Mr. Moses Opaleke, Deputy Registrar, Student Affairs. A copy of the letter was provided to journalists. It was sent by the University’s Student Affairs Unit and had the reference number UIL/SAU/SAO/2024/01.

The letter stated, “Kindly recall that the social media was set agog with the report of sexual molestation by Balogun, Matthew Adeboye Matriculation number 14/25OD062 (aka Plato)”.

“Subsequently, he was invited to appear before the Student Disciplinary Committee on October 16, 2023, which he did not honour.

“At the second sitting of October 19, 2023, of the Student Disciplinary Committee when he showed up, he admitted to the second charge against him for misconducting himself in such a way that he took unlawful and undue advantages of vulnerable students and admission seekers by sexually molesting them under the pretense that he could influence their results and or offer them admissions into the university, contrary to Clause 3(a) viii, 3(b) and 4(k) of Students’ Information and Regulations Handbook.

“On October 25, 2023, he was served his letter of expulsion and consequently expelled from the university”.
