Mallam Nura Suleiman, a 43-year-old Islamic instructor, has been detained by the Niger State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for allegedly abusing a three-year-old student named Isah Muaazu in Suleja, Suleja Local Government Area.

In a statement endorsed by SC Nasir D. Abdullahi, Public Relations Officer in Minna, it was said that the suspect was apprehended by the command’s staff during normal monitoring after they acted upon reliable intelligence.

According to the statement: ”The teacher was arrested on Friday, 19th January 2024 in Tsangaya Makaranta Mallam Umar, located behind Niger Motel, Suleja, Niger State and the victims were rescued as well.

“The molested child, Isah Mu’azu, from Kawo, Kaduna State, was rushed to the General Hospital Suleja, for urgent medical attention following the degree of injuries observed on his body and was admitted based on the magnitude of the injuries sustained.”

Suleiman was caring for four additional rescued children when it was discovered that they had scars on their backs, which was more indication that the suspect had been abusing them.

The victims and the suspect have been turned over to the Niger State Child Rights Agency for more investigation and potential legal action.
