LASU senate grants UNILAG best doctoral thesis award winner N1 million.




Dr. Aminat Ige-Ariyibi, the winner of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) overall best doctoral thesis prize, was given N1 million by the Senate of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo.

Ige-Ariyibi is a lecturer at LASU’s Faculty of Science’s Department of Mathematics and an alumna.Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, LASU’s vice chancellor, delivered the speech on Thursday in Lagos during the school’s 306th statutory senate meeting.

According to the VC, Ige qualified as an exceptional achiever at the institution, as recognised by senate policy.

“Ige-Ariyibi is a pride of LASU and one of the best we have ever produced.

“She has projected this university positively to the whole world by winning not just the best PhD Thesis in the Faculty of Science of UNILAG, but the best overall.

“When the best of UNILAG is from us, we can truly be proud,” she said.

Olatunji-Bello expressed her joy that she has committed her future to LASU despite attempts to entice her away from the institution.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adenike Boyo, called her a friendly, adaptable, and diligent woman.

Boyo added that the recipient gave her all to both LASU and the Akesan Kingdom, where she regularly organised math competitions that improved the lives of young people.

She insisted that since she still had a lot to offer, she should keep being true to herself and giving it her all.

As a professor of mathematics and Ige-Ariyibi’s teacher since her undergraduate years, Prof. Moses Akanbi, dean of the Faculty of Science, claimed he could vouch for her commitment to her studies.

Akanbi said that the Department of Mathematics and Faculty of Science were proud of her.

In her response, Ige-Ariyibi expressed her joy at the honour accorded her by the senate of the university.

She noted that the goodwill and commendation had been massiveIge-Ariyibi said that she had received support from all members of the university community as a whole.

“I am overwhelmed by the show of love, and I promise that I am not going anywhere; I will give my best to LASU.” she said.

On Jan. 18, Ige-Ariyibi was named the overall best doctoral thesis award winner at the 54th Convocation Ceremonies of the University of Lagos.
