Police arrest 8 suspects over murder of UNIMAID lecturer

The Borno State Police Command has detained eight people in connection with the death of Kamar Abdulkadir, a lecturer at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).

Abdulkadir was discovered dead in a pool of his own blood on Sunday, with multiple injuries inflicted on his body by his assassins.

According to NAN, Nahun Daso, the state police spokeswoman, informed journalists that the attackers also took the lecturer’s vehicle, phone, and laptop.

“We reviewed the CCTV footage and saw them leaving the university with the deceased’s vehicle. However, the video quality was poor, so we couldn’t see how many people were inside the car,” he explained.

The state police public relations officer (PPRO) also stated that there is an ongoing inquiry into Abdulkadir’s death.

Abdullahi Shugaba, the university’s vice-chancellor, asked staff and students to “remain calm and conduct their normal, legitimate business.”

Danjuma Gambo, the director of radio and public relations who spoke on his behalf, stated the police and other security authorities have already initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

“In view of the gravity of the matter, management advises all staff and students to remain calm and go about their normal, legitimate businesses because the University is working closely with relevant security agencies to get to the root of the matter,” he said.

“Management also wishes to assure parents, guardians and other stakeholders that the University campus remains safe and secure for teaching, learning and community service.

“Management appreciates the numerous messages of sympathy and support from all its stakeholders in this moment of grief.”
