Al-Istiqama University suspends student for ‘publicly’ proposing love to female colleague on campus

Al-Istiqama University in Sumaila, Kano State, has suspended Abdullahi Juli Mansur, a 200-level student in the Computer Science department.

Mansur’s suspension was notified in a circular released on Tuesday with Ref. no. AUS/REG/54, dated May 14, 2024, following a viral video of him displaying affection to a female schoolmate on campus.

The university judged Mansur’s open display of love “immoral” and ordered his immediate suspension till further notice.

Sani A. Usman, a deputy registrar, signed the memo, which stated that a disciplinary committee had been formed to investigate the situation further.

The suspended student was captured in a short video clip that went viral on social media as he attempted to extend a red bouquet to a female student on campus.

Although the lady did not accept the offer of the “lover boy” in public, the mild drama attracted the attention of other students who lit up the atmosphere with cheers.

Barely 24 hours after the video clip went viral, the private university’s administration suspended the “lover boy” for engaging in what they considered an immoral act on campus.

“This is to intimate you that Abdullahi Juli Mansur a student of department of computer science, with registration no. AUS/SCC/COM/22/1018 was suspended for displaying improper behaviour on campus,” the memo read.

It was gathered that the university management took the decision to protect the guiding principles of the institution.

A source privy to the incident added that the suspension was initiated because the student had been warned against similar behaviours.
