A final-year student of the Electrical Electronics Department at Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic Ikot Osurua in the state’s Ikot Ekpene local government area was shot dead by an armed robbery gang that was allegedly terrorising the campus.
According to reports on Sunday evening, the student, who was only known as Saviour at the time of release, was shot dead Saturday night while dragging his cellphone with armed robbers.
According to news reports, the incident occurred at 8 p.m. in Ikot Uboh, Ikot Ekpene LGA, near where the student previously lived.
The armed thieves allegedly opened fire on their victim as he attempted to raise the alarm. The Akwa Ibom State Police Command verified the incident on Sunday evening.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John simply said police command was aware of the unfortunate incident and have already swung into action.
“The perpetrators will be apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law. It is the determination of CP Waheed Ayilara to rid Akwa Ibom State of criminal elements. And this is not negotiable”, she assured.
