300-level FUOYE student slits colleague’s throat during argument

Rachael Olufogbe, a 300-level student at Federal University, Oye Ekiti in Ekiti State, was arrested by police after physically assaulting a fellow student on Saturday.

According to reports, the incident occurred in a private hostel in Oye Egbo, a village outside the school grounds, after Olufogbe and another female inhabitant disagreed over the right to use the hostel’s drying line.

It was discovered that the victim shifted Olufogbe’s clothes to make room on the clothesline before spreading her clothes. However, Olufogbe objected to this action, which resulted in a verbal exchange between the two.

The confrontation quickly escalated, with Olufogbe allegedly picking up a blade and inflicting bodily harm on the victim.

The school’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Sunday Fashina, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Saturday.

He said, “The incident happened outside the campus in a private hostel. Nobody dares that within the campus because they know the rules and regulations. If anyone tries that, it will catch up with them. The police are already handling it.

“The suspect is in police custody, and once it involves the police, we cannot interfere. When they are done with their investigations, they will write to the Vice-Chancellor to give their report, then we conduct our investigation. So, let’s wait for the outcome of the police investigation.”

Attempts to reach Sunday Abutu, the state Police Public Relations Officer, were fruitless as his phone rang and he did not respond to a WhatsApp message at the time of this release.
